“If you have a minimum of experience, we know that all the complexity of the human being comes from the fact that their actions are often totally at odds with your thoughts, and that two human beings do not always react the same way to a given situation . Some people cry when they are sad, others are violent or, conversely, close themselves… That is why, rather than theorizing for hours, have always preferred to turn the camera on and let the actors surprise me.” —Wong Kar-wai (via elephantinthepicture)

I love it how boys shrug off my accusations of their sexist behaviour as invalid. “If you say so….” indicates that my words don’t matter. It indicates that it’s okay if I’m offended and that it’s not a big deal. They’re not even interested to find out why a girl gets offended by their speech.

30 Day Challenge: Day 10

If you could live off one food and one beverage and for the rest of your days, what would they be?

Chinese tea and rice rolls with sweet sauce. Yours?

Symphony Nr.25 g-moll KV183,173dB - I Allegro con brio Academy of St. Martin in the Fields

The Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183/173dB, was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in October 1773; it was supposedly completed October 5. It is widely known as the opening music in Miloš Forman’s film Amadeus.

#theme song of my life

Sometimes my visceral reaction towards certain things still surprise me. I can tell myself to be opened minded, and I know that I know I’m unfazed, but maybe some things never change at its core.

Towards the end of a film, one of the protagonists drove off a bridge with the bad guy. It was revenge for killing his entire family and leaving him maimed. And I gasped when he had a prosthesis - not the realistic, skin coloured kinds - the mechanical, “futuristic” kind. I know I didn’t gasp because I thought he was maimed, it was because of how unreal he looked. I mean, if we’re going to talk about reality, which commoner real life has a prosthetic forearm like that? In that last 20 seconds, the film choose to put him in an bloody eyepatch and not let him talk, smiling as he drove off the bridge; certainly upping the monster factor here. However unintentional, the film did demonise and portray them as half humans (in a sense?). But I think it brings some lessons across as well. Maybe I am thinking too much.

It’s funny how something as unrelated as the subject of bodies could appear in a Chinese film about eavesdropping and commercial crime. Film watching is always an interesting experience.
